Flower + Feather Crown | DIY

Posted on Apr 8, 2014 by in beauty, crafty, fashion, home page | 0 comments

The accessory that we love to wear any time of the year is a flower + feather crown.  Perfect for a wedding or a music festival and super fun and easy to make.

You’ll need the following supplies:

wire cutters

floral wire: 26 gauge green

floral wire: natural wire

floral tape: green

feathers (we like these here)

flowers (start your search here)

You can also find all of these items at your local craft store, or at Joann’s or Michael’s.

Choose flowers you love!  We picked a colorful assortment to make our flower and feather crown.

Start with creating the base for your crown with the natural floral wire.

Measure the length of wire you will need by wrapping the wire around your head where you want the crown to sit.  Cut the wire 6 inches longer than this length.

Take 3 inches of wire on each end and wrap the wire to create a circle (see above photo).  Fit the crown base on your head to make sure it’s the size you want.

Prep the flowers by trimming all the blooms off of their base stems.  Be sure to keep approximately 2″ to 3″ of a stem on each flower so you have room to attach them to the crown.  We recommend using the wire cutters for this as some flowers come with wire stems.

Using 4 to 5 blooms and a feather, create small bouquets by wrapping the flowers and feathers together with the floral tape.  We recommend cutting 8″ to 10″ strips of floral tape so it’s easier to use and wrap around the flowers and feathers.

We used a variety of arrangements and had fun with color!

Once you have about 15 of these small bouquets, you are ready to start attaching to the base.

Using the wire cutters, cut strips of the 26 gauge green floral wire 8″ in length.  Attach one of the strips to the crown base by wrapping it around the crown base twice.

While holding one of the small bouquets on the outside of the crown base, start wrapping the floral wire around the crown base and the floral bouquet to attach the bouquet securely to the base (see above and below photos).

Continue to do this until you have attached all of the small bouquets to the crown base.  Be sure to space each bouquet so that they aren’t crushing the flowers around them but also so there aren’t empty spaces in between them.

Once completed, you’ll have a beautiful floral and feather crown that you can wear to a wedding, Coachella, or a picnic in the park.

Happy crafting!
