Prepping for a trip, especially a vacation, is sometimes as fun as the trip itself. Planning outfits, what to do, what not do do … we love all of it. And that is the case here. Hawaii, here we come!
When going to the Hawaiian islands, we like to keep in line with Hawaiian style: chic, simple, easy … a combination of comfort and style. Hawaii cool.
Below: a few of our favorite things to bring when visiting any of the Hawaiian islands.
Always, always pack a basic bikini. We love this one from Olaya Beach: black string bottoms and a new take on a bandeau top. Perfection.
For something on the other end of the spectrum, anything from Mara Hoffman will do. Our favorite: her basket weave bikini. The colors and print make for fantastic fun.
If something in the middle of those two is more your speed, try this bikini from Victoria’s Secret. This bikini has a tribal pattern and tassel tie bottoms. Love the detail.
Over-sized sunnies are an absolute must and these sunnies from Karen Walker are beyond. One Worship Black and Gold sunnies are available online. Additional bonus: Karen Walker is working with the United Nations’ ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative to create work in community groups of micro-artisans in Kenya. Every pair of eyewear from the new collection comes with a wearable pouch.
Another absolute must: denim shorts. Try these Madeleine shorts by Siwy Jeans for a black denim take on the cut off shorts.
We never need an excuse to wear a caftan, especially when on vacation or at the beach. To channel your inner Taltha Getty, try this caftan from Pia Pauro. We love the color and details and is a piece you can wear to the beach or out to dinner.
Go casual with Taj’s long sleeve cover up. The print and contrast bead detailing are beautiful on this piece. Wear over your swimwear or pair of shorts.
For your feet: keep things as simple as you can. We always end up at the local Longs Drug store buying the Locals brand flip flops once we are there because we love this one essential. Try a colorful pair of flip flops from Havaianas, like the ones shown above.
Whatever you end up packing, be sure to include lots of sunscreen and a good book.
